Downtown Proper Finally Gets the Sports Bar It Deserves: The Sportsbook Bar & Grill Opens on South Tejon
Hot Damn! A real sports bar has finally arrived Downtown! The Sportsbook Bar & Grill held its soft opening this week, and we at Springs Things got a sneak peek into what is sure to be a huge hit in the Downtown corridor!
For those not familiar, The Sportsbook is a Denver based concept, founded by Jeremy Malone and Judson Dymon. The duo has spent more than a decade building a loyal following along the Front Range, and now they've brought that experience south, opening their newest location right here on South Tejon Street. The Sportsbook is located under the SpringHill Suites and Element Hotel at 402 S. Tejon Street.
The first thing that grabs your attention when you walk in is the number and size of screens. Not just televisions scattered around a room, but massive displays positioned so there really isn't a bad seat in the house. With the World Cup arriving this summer, it's easy to imagine this place packed shoulder to shoulder with fans cheering on their favorite team. The same goes for Broncos Sundays, Avalanche playoff runs, and just about any major sporting event you can think of.
Of course, giant TVs only get you so far. The food has to hold up too.
Thankfully, it does.
We started with the Championship Wings, and they absolutely lived up to the billing. We choose the Sportsbook Signature flavor based on a suggestion from a neighboring patron, and we were not steered wrong! Crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and packed with flavor. We will be back for the wings for sure!
The Philly cheesesteak was another standout. Tender sliced beef, plenty of melted cheese, and a soft roll that somehow managed to hold everything together until the last bite. Both the traditional and sweet potato fries were excellent too.
For something a little lighter, we also tried the Cobb salad. Fresh greens, generous toppings, and with a light balsamic dressing. In my opinion, too many sports bars treat salads like an obligation. This one felt like something the kitchen actually wanted to serve.
Behind the bar, things were equally impressive. The draft beer selection covers plenty of territory, whether you're looking for a familiar favorite or something local. The cocktail program was surprisingly strong as well, with a well-stocked back bar that gives the bartenders plenty to work with. We tried the cucumber lemonade and found it to be a perfectly refreshing compliment to the entire meal.
A successful opening like this doesn't happen by accident. Malone and Dymond have spent years refining the Sportsbook formula, and they've assembled a team that understands what makes the concept work. From the front of house staff to the management team helping launch the Colorado Springs location, there was an energy throughout the building that felt genuine. The service was friendly, attentive, and enthusiastic! We will be retuning for Game Day very soon!!
*Huge shout out to The Sportsbook for the invite and congratulations on hosting a great soft launch! Welcome to The Springs!!
